This article is very well-researched and provides some excellent data on healthcare availability for undocumented immigrants. I think your article would greatly benefit from some more detailed discussion of how this data relates to healthcare as a whole in the United States -- how undocumented immigrants contribute to the national economy, how their health is affected by the work they do, and so on. I think the article would also benefit from added information on why this topic is important, not just for policy debate but also for public health and the economy. Some infographics and photos would also be a helpful addition! Great work on your article so far, LHall19 (talk) 02:00, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Illegal immigrants versus undocumented whatever

[edit]

The main article is Illegal immigration to the United States, the category is Category:Illegal_immigration_to_the_United_States and almost all things listed in there say "illegal immigrant" not "undocumented". Undocumented immigrants redirects to Illegal immigration. I undid an IP address changing this, but was then reverted by :@EEng:. Opinions please. Which terminology should be used? Sources in the article and elsewhere use both. Dream Focus 21:51, 14 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Use of "illegal immigrants", per EEng's edit summary, is problematic by itself, and use of "illegal Latinos" and the like just comes across as deliberately antagonistic/insulting. "illegal groups" reads like it refers to terrorist groups that have been proscribed by law. Referring to United States citizens as "legal residents" in spite of the wording used by the source is obviously inappropriate. Describing human beings as "illegal" is not the same as describing the act/phenomenon of immigration with the same word; this is all elaborated on in at Illegal immigration#Terminology. Your version even went so far as to use the pejorative noun "illegals". Hijiri 88 (やや) 22:36, 14 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The undocumented persons link doesn't go anywhere. In the context of this article should it be undocumented immigrants? Peter James (talk) 14:11, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Peter James: I don't mind much either way. The IP made a lot of changes, most of which looked positive to me (fixed misquoting of source regarding "legal residents", removed use of plural noun "illegals", etc.) and was not really concerning myself with fixing all details of the edit. Linking, or even redirecting, undocumented persons to illegal immigration would still be better than before the IP's edit, IMO. Hijiri 88 (やや) 10:43, 18 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

New additions

[edit]

Hi all,

I am planning to bring new information found in scholarly sources to the "International perspective," "Political debate," and "Federal Legislation" sections. I have found published information on the health policies of many other countries in the Global North and Global South and feel this would benefit the article. Also, studies I have found further bolster the notions currently stated in the "Political Debate" section. The "Federal Legislation" section seems to be a little vague and missing some key components based on the scholarly material I have reviewed, so my additions here will be working to clarify how this legislation impacts undocumented immigrants. I will be adding some other small facts and copyediting these sections as well to accommodate my additions, but other than this I do not intend to significantly alter or remove any others' contributions. Please let me know of any questions or concerns.

illegal immigrant vs undocumented immigrant vs unauthorized immigrant Word choice

[edit]

Should we have a unified word choice? Or just have every editor pick the word variant based on their discretion? The article is called Healthcare availability for "undocumented immigrants" in the United States so I propose we stick to that word usage for continuity sakes.
